Ushakov, Fedor

Fedor Ushakov (1745-1817) was a legendary Russian sea captain, as well as an Admiral who played a key role in the creation and development of the Russian Navy on the Black Sea. He made a significant contribution to the training of ship crews, and the development of Sevastopol Port. Significantly, he never suffered a defeat in his entire military career. In 2004, Fedor Ushakov was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.

A new multifunctional ice-breaking supply vessel, built to order for Sovcomflot to serve the Sakhalin-2 project, is named after Fedor Ushakov. In terms of her characteristics, the vessel is one of the best in her class, combining high manoeuvrability, a powerful propulsion system, and a large passenger capacity.

Fedor Ushakov’s design and equipment enable the year-round delivery of supplies and consumables for personnel on offshore oil platforms, as well as providing standby search-and-rescue support and an emergency response capability. Despite her relatively small size, Fedor Ushakov can evacuate up to 150 people. The availability of such vessels in the Russian fleet makes it possible to significantly increase the levels of protection afforded to the environment of the Far Eastern region.
