Viktor Bakaev (1902-1987) was Doctor of Technical Science, Professor, author of a range of studies and numerous publications, including influential books on the fundamentals of maritime fleet operations.
Over the years, he taught at maritime academies in Moscow, Leningrad and Vladivostok and from 1954 until 1970 was USSR Minister of Merchant Marine.
The LR II class product carrier built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering yard was named after Viktor Bakaev. The vessel complies with all existing Russian and international standards governing maritime safety, energy efficiency and environmental protection, and is registered with Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.
