Valentin Kostichev (1924–1993) was a shipmaster.
He was born in Kirsanov District, Tambov Region. In 1941, he was relocated to Tashkent where he worked as a fitter at the mortar weapons plant. In 1944, he began studying at the Navigation Faculty of the Vladivostok Higher Maritime School. During his seamanship, he participated in landing operations in Korea. He became a shipmaster in 1959.
In 1969, Valentin Kostichev was the first person to navigate a large-capacity tanker to the port of Pevek in Arctic conditions. He worked with the Primorsk Shipping Corporation from the day it was established. Over 31 years working as a shipmaster, he made a great contribution to training fleet personnel.
He was awarded a medal for the victory over Japan (1945), the 2nd Degree Order of the Patriotic War, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1971), the badge of Honourable Worker of the Naval Ministry (1975), the Order of the October Revolution as well as the title of Best Shipmaster of the USSR Naval Ministry (1978, 1981, 1982) and an honorary title of Honoured Worker of Transport of the RSFSR.
